ZAPATA ATTACKS DIAZ IN MICHOACAN
General Emiliano Zapata has launched an attack on President Diaz in Michoacan. The president seemed almost ready for the attack, using Federalis troops to defend. The attacking forces were pushed back into a Zapata-controlled territory.
WAR IN SONORA
Fighting has broken out between former allies in Sonora. Militiamen loyal to Generals Carranza and Gutierrez attacked presidential forces. Losses were reported on both sides, though it is unclear at this time if either side will control the territory.
NEW PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
In a surprise move, Generals Zapata, Gutierrez and Carranza have declared their candidacy in this months presidential election. It was thought at least one of the Generals, presumably Gutierrez, would run against President Diaz. In his announcement speech, Gutierrez said “The call for an election has revealed the character and ambition of Diaz.”
With so many candidates in the race, the election could be split, resulting in anarchy or even perhaps the reelection of Diaz.
FORT JALISCO DESTROYED
After months and relentless attacks, Fort Jalisco has fallen.
ZAPATA TAKES DURANGO
Forces loyal to General Gutierrez have abandoned the territory of Durango, leaving that northern territory to General Zapata.
BEFORE ATTACK, ZAPATA DENOUNCES DIAZ
General Emiliano Zapata denounced President Diaz in a speech in the Federal District. The two men were once allies, but have since taken up armed conflict against one another. In the speech, Zapata said “It is with sadness that I report to the people of Mexico that the once honest Prez. Diaz has betrayed us all to line his pockets with our tax money. While he grows fat off the riches of Mexico, the Zapatistas and the rest of Mexico suffers. I call on all Mexican peoples to rise up against Prez. Diaz and bring down this vile two faced swine of a man.”
AND IN OTHER NEWS...
* King Manuel II of Portugal and the Queen Mother were forced have fleed Lisbon, after the Army and Navy joined in a coup by the Republican movement and began shelling the royal palace.
* Rebels in Manaus, Brazil, seized control of the government of the State of Amazonas, but were later driven out by federal troops.
